ABOUT

Justin - Omaha Beach - Normand y - © Ber

With feet in both the legal and arts worlds, I have devoted my career to helping artists achieve their dreams in the United States. I am a practicing performing artist who has enjoyed a parallel career as a lawyer since 2005, representing dancers, musicians, actors, directors, photographers, graphic designers, authors, fashion designers, mobile app developers and other creative professionals.

A self-proclaimed quadruple threat (immigrant-dancer-pianist-lawyer), I was born in Jamaica and studied piano performance at the Royal College of Music in London and Boston University, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Music before completing my legal education at Columbia Law School. At Columbia, I was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, a staff member of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review, and a legal intern at Thirteen/WNYC and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. After stints as a corporate attorney at Holland & Knight LLP and over ten years at a boutique NYC firm representing creative-industry clients in immigration and corporate matters, I launched my own practice in 2021.

As a performer, I have worked with choreographers Nai-Ni Chen, Elisa Monte, David Parker, Christopher Williams and many others, performed in productions with the Merce Cunningham Trust, Metropolitan Opera and Third Rail Projects, and presented my own work in NYC and Vienna. I was a danceWEB Scholar at the ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival.

My speaking engagements have included the Dance and Stuff podcast, DANCE/NYC Field Wide Calls, African Film Festival at Lincoln Center, Fashion Institute of Technology, Florida State University and the SUNY-Levin Institute. I'm on the board of directors of Mobile Dance Film Association.

"It feels completely more personal to work with a lawyer who is also a multi-hyphenate artist."
